The Interlibrary Loan Service is a cooperative network of libraries in a country for the procurement and delivery of media. Not only university libraries are engaged in this cooperation but also public and special libraries.

Contact your local library and inquire about the possibilities for Interlibrary Loan. Librarians will give you information about the ordering process. The prerequisite is that you log in to the corresponding library. For example, if you are already a registered user of the local public library, you can use your account for Interlibrary Loan.

To get an overview of which libraries in your area participate in the Interlibrary Loan, use the list of library codes. Enter your location in the search box and put the check mark below at "Libraries". You will now receive a hit list of libraries in your region. Call up a hit for the address data and check whether the library participates in the Interlibrary Loan.

In short, you order a book or journal article in a library affiliated to Interlibrary Loan. The ordered document will be delivered to this library and you can borrow the book or you get a copy of an article.

Many countries around the world are also affiliated with interlibrary loan or offer other document delivery services.
