Scan with your own device in Kaiserslautern

The "scan-with-your-own-device station" makes it easy to scan documents and excerpts from books using your own smartphone or tablet.

A so-called "document scanner" app is used for this. These are available in free and paid versions with a wide range of functions in the respective device app store.

In general, you can also use these apps as they are - without this station. However, this not only makes it easier to use the apps, but also improves the quality of the scans made. As you can place your own device on the station, it is always at the same distance from the document/book and therefore produces more consistent scanning results. The blurring of images is avoided. And the integrated, strong and even lighting prevents shadows, reduces reflections and displays colors more brilliantly. As the scans are stored directly on your own device, no additional storage media such as USB sticks are required.

1. Open any app for scanning documents on your smartphone or tablet (suitable apps can be found by searching for the term "document scanner" in the respective device app store, for example)
2. Position the device on the top of the box so that the camera on the back can see through the hole to the scanning area
3. Make the following settings in the app, if possible:
   • Deactivate the built-in LED light
   • Set the highest possible resolution for the camera (this is usually the case for a format with an aspect ratio of 4:3)
4. Place the document/book to be scanned on the dark storage surface and align it so that the page to be scanned is completely visible on the device display
5. If the object appears too large or small on the display, the height of the shelf can be changed: Simply pull the board forwards out of the box and insert it at a different level
6. You can now start scanning with the selected app
