RDM services at the RPTU

RPTU provides its members with several central services for different phases of the data life cycle. In the following you will find a summary of these services and selected external tools.

Detailed further information and subject-specific offers can be found at forschungsdaten.info and at the consortia of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).

The University Library offers basic introductory information on RDM and e-tutorials (coming soon) about RDM topics on its homepage.

Further information can be found, for example, at forschungsdaten.info ) or at the NFDI consortia.

The Office for Research and the University Library help on various topics in the context of RDM.

At the Office for Research you will, for example, find help on the following topics:

  • Requirements of various funding bodies
  • Formulation aids for the sections on RDM in third-party funding applications
  • Creation of data management plans
  • Point of contact for your RDM concerns within RPTU

At the UB you will, for example, find support on the following topics:

  • Publishing research data
  • Licenses and usage rights
  • Creation of data management plans (in cooperation with the Office for Research)

RDMO is a free, web-based tool for planning and documenting RDM in projects and for creating data management plans. RDMO is based on checklists in the form of structured interviews.

forschungsdaten.info provides a generally accessible, generic RDMO instance at https://rdmo.forschungsdaten.info/. You can log in to this instance via Shibboleth with your RPTU credentials. Among others there are checklists based on the requirements of the DFG, the European Research Council (ERC) and Horizon Europe.

You can also find subject-specific tools and questionnaires at many NFDI consortia. Often you can use these tools even if you are not a member of the consortium.

Electronic lab notebooks are software products that are used to document the planning, execution and evaluation of laboratory experiments in a similar way to analog lab notebooks. eLabFTW is freely available to members of the RPTU as an open-source solution. The RPTU instance is hosted on RHRZ servers.

RPTU researchers can log in via Shibboleth with their RPTU credentials here: https://elab.rptu.de/login.php.

For specific eLabFTW questions, you can contact rz-elabftw(at)rptu.de. For workshop requests or queries on more general RDM topics, please contact spin-inf(at)rptu.de

GitLab is open-source software that allows you to host and manage your own Git repositories. It is primarily used for version control of software projects based on Git.

The RHRZ operates a local installation, which you can access with your RPTU account or Rhineland-Palatinate-wide via Shibboleth.

The RPTU DataHUB is a central web-based software for secure storage of research data. It is currently in trial operation.

If you have any questions about the DataHUB or would like to participate in the trial operation, please contact the RHRZ (Dr. Markus Hillenbrand).

iRODs is an open-source data management software solution for the long-term archiving of research data. Currently, only test operation is possible; if you are interested, please contact the RHRZ (Dr. Markus Hillenbrand).

You can publish research data that supplements a text publication (journal article, dissertation, etc.) via the University Library and the RHRZ. A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is registered for the data. In this way, your data is given a unique and permanent digital identifier that you can use to refer to the associated data.

If you are interested in publishing research data, please contact the University Library (Dr. Katharina Niederprüm).

Additional Services

In addition to the basic services provided by the RHRZ and the publication services of the University Library, members of the RPTU have access to several other services that may be helpful in the context of FDM:
